Warwickshire Mens Veterans League - Rules
Set: 22-07-2024

WARWICKSHIRE MEN’S VETERANS LEAGUE RULES 2024 (Updated 22 July 2024)
1
Clubs entering the competition must be affiliated to the Warwickshire LTA (or in certain circumstances a neighbouring County LTA) and must be an LTA Registered Venue.

2
All competitors must be 45 or over on 31st December in the year of competition, and they must be members of the club that they represent. Players who reach the age of 45 in January may play in matches after that date.

3
Clubs will pay an annual subscription for each team entered to meet the costs of using MyDivision. This will be notified to clubs in advance for payment prior to the season commencing.

4
Each team shall consist of two pairs.

5
The home team must provide eight new balls, authorised by the LTA, for each match.

6
Each pair will play both the opposing pairs, two tie break sets with a tie break at 6/6, and a championship tie break “set” if a decider is necessary. A championship tie break counts as ONE GAME & ONE SET.

7
One point will be scored for each rubber won.

8
When teams have an equal number of points, the positions in the league tables shall be determined by the percentage of sets won, and if still level, by the percentage of games won.

9
At the conclusion of the season, the top team in Division 1 will be champions of the league.

10
If the number of teams in the following season remains the same, the top two teams in Divisions 2, 3 and 4 will be promoted to the next higher division, and the bottom two teams in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 will be relegated to the next lower division. If the total number of teams in the league changes, there will be variations to this rule to ensure that the number of teams in each division is no more than eight and that divisions are of similar size.

11
All matches must be played on the scheduled date, the only reasons acceptable for postponement are poor weather and/or the unfit condition of the courts. Matches may be played outdoor or indoor, and floodlights may be used.

12
A player may play for only one club during each season. For clubs with more than one team in the league, any player having played in more than two matches for a higher ranking team shall not subsequently be permitted to play for a lower ranking team during the same season. A member of a lower ranking team may play for a higher ranking team, irrespective of the number of times he has played for the lower ranking team.

13
Matches not played or completed on the programme date must be rearranged by the home captain, preferably on the next free weekend. Unfinished matches shall be continued from the point of interruption. Substitutes may be used to complete unfinished matches if agreed by both captains. Any rubber involving a substitute must commence from scratch. All matches must be completed by 31st January 2025.

14
Play shall commence at the appointed time unless previously agreed otherwise. In the event of a pair not being ready to play within 30 minutes of the agreed starting time, their opponents may claim one 6-0 set; in the event of a pair not being ready to play within 45 minutes of the agreed starting time, their opponents may claim the rubber 6-0, 6-0. If neither pair of a rubber is ready to play within 30 minutes of the agreed starting time, then that rubber shall be reduced to one set only; if neither pair of a rubber is ready to play within 45 minutes of the agreed starting time, then that rubber shall be void (0-0, 0-0).

15
Teams unable to field at least one pair on the scheduled date will lose the match 0-4, 0-8. If during the same season a team fails on a second occasion to field at least one pair, then they may be removed from the league and any previous results expunged.

16
Results must be entered and confirmed by the captain or an authorised person from each club on www.mydivision.com within 3 days. In case of failure to confirm a result within this timescale, the League or Divisional Secretary will accept the initial result entry as final.

17
Any rubber not completed because of injury or retirement shall be forfeited.
